General Manager: corporate planning, strategic steering & business development

Responsible for conceptual development, steering & implementation of strategic business operations, including company level projects, as well as mid-& long-term business development. Reports to CEO 

Requirements

  • B.Sc., B.Eng. or B. Com  
  • 7-10 years Corporate Planning & Steering or an equivalent Strategic role. 
  • Driver’s license.  
  • Expert level: Computer literacy (Office suite, including Microsoft 365), PowerPoint, Excel 

 Advantageous Requirements

Minimum of 5 years in a role which involved Strategy, Corporate Finance, or Investment analysis.  CA, CFA or MBA 

Key Working Relationships 

Internally: Senior Management, Group Managers, Dealership staff  

Externally: Customer, Suppliers, OEMs, government departments 

Job Responsibilities: 

Section B: Key Duties  

This section comprises the main duties, not limited to the following:  

Strategic focus: 

  • Developing and detailing of Business Development & Future Expansion strategies.  
  • Develop, plan and steer projects based on group strategy and aligned with business needs.  
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders & market leaders in the development of strategies, policies, initiatives and projects representing the interests of the company by providing input and transparency of business needs and requirements and ensure those are realized\Plan, steer and oversee the roll out of strategic projects.  
  • Governance role with regards to strategy and projects within the Company.  
  • Research local/regional markets for local trends and strategies 
  • Represent the Company with all initiatives and projects in dealing with external stakeholders 

Operational focus:  

  • Investigate and analyse investment opportunities by developing business case to support investment decisions and strategic decision-making.  
  • Write reports and prepare presentations on business growth opportunities and business case for key stake holders.  
  • Negotiate commercially advantageous transactions with key stakeholders, prepare and manage finance and commercial due diligence on acquisition targets.  
  • Project management the execution of investment decisions  
  • Build detailed valuation models to quantify potential investment opportunities and support investment decision making, prepare and propose deal structures and prepare investment case for acquisition.  
  • Collaborate and coordinate internal and external resources, facilitate external process (lawyers, auditors, investment banks and consultants etc.).  
  • Stay informed and knowledgeable of the motor retail industry developments; OEM dealer network strategies, NAAMSA programmes etc.  
  • Support the development and coordination of company growth strategy.  
  • Actively participate in the identification and driving of opportunities for strategic development.  
  • Interact with the Board of Directors, to seek approval for strategic & business initiatives/ projects.

  • Develop future, young talent that ensures robust succession planning.  
  • Coach & mentor team members to achieve Individual Development Plans & agreed targets

  • Create three statement model comprising of balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement.

  • Plan projects from conception to completion, assess project risks and opportunities, execute each phase of the project life cycle, map out time lines; create, allocate and manage budget  
  • Communicate with clear purpose; create trust, open and honest channels of communication; develop rapport; active listening; repair damaged relationships and read body language.
